tiny newsletter #31: edinburgh recap

hi friends!

oof, am i glad it's friday. let's get right to the fun stuff, shall we? this past week i went to edinburgh for 3 days for a v special trip w friends.

in edinburgh, i...

💛 saw fotn eleonora saravalle perform her one-woman show dried apricots. i don't think any of you will happen to be in edinburgh this month, but if you are, you absolutely must go see nora's play. you'll laugh, you'll cry, her writing is so smart and she's a mesmerizing actor – you won't be able to look away. 1000000000/10!

🏰 learned about scotland. we hit as many historic sites as we could squeeze in: edinburgh castle, calton hillthe national museum of scotland, the scottish national portrait gallery, and the scottish national gallery. if you can believe it, those are 3 completely different museums! the portrait gallery was my fav, and all of the museums were free.

👟 walked and walked and walked. edinburgh is v easy to navigate (watch out for cobblestones tho!) and we traveled exclusively on foot. we also hiked arthur's seat, an extinct volcano with literal breaktaking views at the top.

🥧 thoroughly enjoyed scottish classics. tunnock's tea cakes, foil-wrapped half-spheres of chocolate-dipped biscuits and marshmallows the size of my fist, sticky toffee pudding, and meadowsweet ice cream, a herb/flower that tasted like honey and gingerbread, all made me feel like i was at eating at the hogwarts great hall.

here's my full write-up (loads of details), a google map (for orientation), and an instagram guide (highlights only) for more info any which way you'd like. also, i'm kicking myself for only now hearing about jupiter artland, a dreamy sculpture garden an hour outside the city. guess i'll have to go back!

~ bonus section ~

🍋 an ode to lemon curd 🍋 imo, scones with clotted cream and lemon curd are just about the most perfect thing you can eat. i was hoping to have my fill in edinburgh, but lemon curd was nowhere to be found. the good news is that it's easy enough to make, but if your kitchen is also the size of a postage stamp, tiptree is the absolute best store-bought option.

💌 and that's the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
