tiny newsletter #19: big apple official
oh my gosh you guys,
this week i...moved to new york freakin city!! i truly can't believe i'm here, someone needs to pinch me. it's a bit of a shock to my system (in a good way) being surrounded by so many people. here's a few tiny stories about the people i met this week who helped me get settled.
📦 the movers! mikhail and denis, two men who spoke 99% in russian to each other and 1% in english to me, had all sorts of ideas for my place. paint it white, take off the closet doors, get rid of the wallpaper, maybe change your mind and move somewhere bigger? but they were sweeties: carefully assembling my furniture, giving advice for my next move, telling me to watch out for my grumpy neighbor they met on their way up.
📶 the wifi installer! i ordered a self-installation wifi kit and all went well until the last step, when the light on the modem (blue if it's working, red if it's not) simply would not turn blue. spectrum sent jose to my door, a godsend. he had to install 3 different kits and go up on my roof and fix the wiring to get it to connect! he refused to give up, even when i was about to.
💐 the woman giving out free flowers on fifth ave! ok, i didn't catch her name, but this felt like such a new york moment. the jewelry company van cleef & arpels had a cute truck set up with free cookies, snapdragons, and tulips as part of their current artist installation. i said “omg is that a loria stern shortbread cookie?!" and she replied “yes it is!!". such a fun and enthusiastic exchange, a real treat.
much to do (organize my closet, hang art, assemble these tricky lampshades, the list goes on) but i just feel so good about being here. i feel calm and capable and proud of myself! i rly did the dang thing. so many versions of me always wanted to live here. a big new adventure has begun – ty for being a part of it!
💌 and that's the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
