π―π΅ tiny newsletter #94: japan recap
hi friends,
i'm back from 2 wks in japan w friends of the newsletter (fotn) natalie and julia bolton and fiona chu, jet lagged and deeply grateful for the time together.
whether or not you have pals to host you there (ty bolton sisters!!), i highly rec this trip!
in japan, we...
π§ saw art: 13,000 orchids at teamlab, moving silk waves at the national art center, yayoi kusama's pumpkin at benesse house, and a water droplet space at teshima's art museum.
β©οΈ visited temples, shrines and gardens: so much beauty and serenity at ginkaku-ji (silver temple), kinkakuji (gold temple), the fushimi inari shrine, and okayama's korakuen garden.
π₯’ ate, ate, ate: i'm still full!! fav bites included mochi-covered fruit, uni tempura, fluffy pancakes, chicken curry, ice cream in a pouch, and by far the freshest sushi i've ever had.
π relaxed at the bathhouse: we spent a day at ryogoku edo-yu, a dreamy onsen w hot, cold, and tea (!) baths to soak in, heated rocks to lay on, and perf karaage. i'd fly back for this tmrw!
ποΈ found treats: stationary at loft, brushes at naito brush shop, gummy candy at 7/11 and lawson, cups at yumiko iihoshi porcelain, and fruits in the basement of the tokyu dept store.
π noticed: diff jingles playing at each subway station, tiled buildings, ppl covering their books w cloth to hide the titles, vending machines w hot and cold cans (how?!) on every corner.
here's a full write-up (all my info) and a google map (for otg decisions). instagram is telling me i'm "too active" to make guides rn smh, but i'll have them up here asap for a visual view of highlights too. lmk adds for next time plz, ty!
π and that's the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
