🏡 tiny newsletter #124: hudson recap
hello hello,
happy fri! i'm v excited to see rentforcheryl play at the bowery electric tn, it's fotn isabelle post's band!! tix are avail here – see you there?
it was a sweaty, sticky week and i got out of the city for a few days with fotn madeline warshaw and her dog zucchini. we went to hudson, a small town 2 hrs north of nyc known for its whaling history, antiquing options, and the hudson river school painters.
in hudson, we...
🍴 ate ate ate. a perf buckwheat scone at cafe mutton (#1 stop!), strawberry buttermilk ice cream at alleyway ice cream, a steak the size of the table at stissing house. next time we'll try sandwiches at quinnies and focaccia at talbottt & arding too.
🌳 enjoyed the valley views. this area is a real beaut to drive through. on foot, we explored art omi sculpture garden and olana state historic site, the historic home and grounds of hudson river painter frederic church. both are open dawn til dusk and free!
🛍️ shopped (window counts!) on warren st, the main/only thoroughfare. hit up clove and creek for homewares, nikki chasin for v special fits, river to admire their pretty mural, les indiennes for block print linens, and regan & smith for antiques.
a few tips – we stayed at an airbnb, but both the maker hotel (dark wood, historic feel) + rivertown lodge (modern, ex movie theater) are beautiful. many shops and restaurants are closed mon + tues. amtrak takes you right into town from nyc but you'll want a car here!
we had a lovely visit but i must tell you, hudson's vibe was a little spooky/off!! a lot of shops felt like this, lol. have you been? i'd go back for cafe mutton, lmk what we missed.
💌 and that’s the tiny letter! stay cool this weekend, ok? thank you for reading, xo aud
