tiny newsletter edition #5: on seeking out joy

hi friends!

recently, i’ve been spending a lot of quality time with my mom. her mom died when she was 18 and i think this has strongly informed her attitude towards life. she’s very much a ‘we don’t know how much time we have, so buy the cashmere sweater! eat the cookie! plan the trip!’ person, whereas i can lean a little too worried-about-the-future. we’ve been eating a lot of treats, hahaha. it’s been a good reminder that joy can truly be a daily practice.

this week, i…

📺 watched the louis vuitton men’s fall-winter 2022 fashion show. you can see it right on their site! all i could think while it played was wow! this is poetry, how beautiful and dream-like and magical. it’s the last show comprised of mostly virgil abloh’s designs and was put on in homage to his recent passing. i think it’s really worth your time. it isn’t a straight filming of the runway show - more like a tiny film that captured it. and don’t skimp on the experience, make it full screen!

🧅 made this french onion soup! when i cook with my parents, there’s always a lot of substitutions. my dad has high blood pressure, so salt is forbidden. both my parents are vegan, so forget about the cheese, butter, or beef stock – we used 50/50 water and unsalted vegetable stock. and they don’t drink, so the only alcohol in the house is a few dusty bottles gifted years ago. that being said, i was shocked at how good the end result was! the magic lies in all the different types of onions, and the hours of cooking them down. any way you make it, this recipe gets 5 stars from me.

🎧 listened to what you want from legally blonde the musical on repeat. a fun fact about me is that i never have cool song recommendations. i simply am completely out of the loop! instead, i get stuck on one song from eons ago and just need to ride that wave out. in high school i was a tone-deaf extra in legally blonde (lol) and i still remember every word to the first half of it. i adore this musical, no shame in that game! may this inspire you to also play whatever music puts a smile on your face.

☎️ ask aud ☎️ this week, a friend of mine asked for help with a social situation. she was invited to an old friend from high school's wedding out of state, and didn’t really want to spend the funds to go. what to do? i suggested kindly rsvp’ing no by saying she unfortunately has a previous engagement that day, and then sending something in her budget off the registry. boom, everyone’s happy! what do you think - good advice? if so, feel free to write in with q’s and i’ll do this little column every so often!

💌 and that’s the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
