tiny newsletter edition #12: solo date, blind love
happy friday friends!
i’ve gotta say, this is one of those fridays where i truly am glad the weekend is here. big sigh of relief! my only plans are a friend's birthday celebration and then a whole lot of nothing. can’t wait!
this week, i…
📺 watched love is blind japan. i'm shocked at how much i enjoyed this show, which felt like an elevated take on the american version (which is also a tiny rec, if only for the drama). the set was gorgeous, the individuals had interesting careers, and i was incredibly impressed with the couples’ communication skills. they were all so honest, straightforward, and articulate with each other about their emotions. i was taking notes!!
🗞️ read this article on how books are made. oh, i loved this so much! i didn’t realize how manual the process is, especially the book jacket printing. it took me right back to working on the tait desk clock colors with guys who mixed each vat of paint by hand. so many rounds of going back and forth on what exactly was the right pink – a very particular and incredibly fun process. true artists at work, just like the team featured here.
🍿 went to the movies alone. i wanted to see licorice pizza bcuz i am a big fan of haim and was excited for alana’s first acting role. but did you know all 3 sisters are in this, plus their parents? and that there’s a heartwarming (and accurate) shabbat scene? excellent movie, and fyi it turns out going to the movies by yourself is a blast. i got sno-caps, was given free popcorn (!) and sprawled out on sofa seats as if it was my own massive living room.

🍞 how to keep a loaf of fancy bread going 🍞 it’s a simple trick – slice the loaf and freeze it! but the key is to freeze in two steps. first, spread out the pieces on a baking tray in as many layers as needed with parchment paper in between. let that (carefully) sit in the freezer for about an hour. then, stack the slices back into a loaf and freeze in a plastic bag. by adding in that extra step, you can make a piece of toast without having to hack away at icy slices that have all frozen together.
