tiny newsletter #61: boca raton recap
hello helloooo!
this past weekend i went to see my grandparents in boca raton, fl! phil (96) and estelle (94) are in tip-top shape, just like last year. plus, it was 89 degrees everyday – i almost forgot how to act!! good thing there were signs posted up to help me out.
in boca, i...
🏊♀️ swam in their pool. i was reluctant to leave the pool for any reason, swimming endless slow laps and following my nanna's lead on water aerobics. all other fl recs are second to getting in the water and staying til you're a prune.
🎋 walked around the morikami museum's japanese gardens. ohh these gardens were lovely, withsky-high bambooand not one but two (!)rock gardens. plus, their cafe is great, go for the veggie bento box over the classic.
🍦 ate brendy's frozen yogurt. there truly is nothing like strip mall froyo!! i ignored my poppa's advice to ask for toppings on the side and was wrong, i would've gotten triple the m&ms! take his word on this if you go.
🖼️ visited the norton museum of art. "i don't like o'keeffe, but this one's nice" -my poppa, on this painting. "oh look, a louise nevelson!" -me, on this sculpture by tom sachs. we all learned a lot here, and that's rly what it's about.
~ bonus section ~
🥣 poppa's mix 🥣 my poppa eats the same bfast everyday, a combo of 4 cereals and fruit. though my nanna has cooked most meals for nearly 75 years, this mix is "his department".
recipe: combine no-sugar shredded wheat (50%), cheerios (20%), blueberry granola (15%), and chia almond cereal (15%) in a large tupperware vessel, leaving an inch of space at the top. put on the lid and gently move the container à la diy rain stick, til all cereals are combined.
top with blueberries, raspberries, a banana, almond milk, and enjoy! bonus points if you can track down heart shaped cheerios like he does.
💌 and that's the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
