tiny newsletter #44: giving thanks

hi friends,

happy day-after-thanksgiving! though this holiday's origins aren't something to celebrate, i hope you got to sit down for a meal with people you love. s/o to friend of the newsletter eliza cuevas for hosting me and baking insanely delicious jalapeño cornbread and chocolate pecan pie

i must say that i feel incredibly thankful for you – tysm for reading tiny!!

this week, i...

📚 read olga dies dreaming by xochitl gonzalez. this story follows career-driven siblings olga and pietro acevedo as they grapple w their runaway activist mother, puerto rican roots, and personal truths. a big ty to fotn liza arias for this satisfying read, the first book in months i fell so deeply into.

📺 watched s2 of the sex lives of college girls. mindy kaling's show is back, baby!! without spoiling, i’ll rec for sweet comedic takes on campus social life, student loans, and growing up.

🎧 listened to riptide by vance joy. a song you probably know, a song i leave on repeat. "i love you when you're singing that song / and i've got a lump in my throat / 'cause you're gonna sing the words wrong."

✍️ how to play bad poetry ✍️ i learned this fun game for a group last night at thanksgiving! in unison, players write poems together, each adding a line based only on the previous one. here's the steps:

1. cut pieces of paper into narrow long strips, one for each player.
2. give each person a strip of paper and a pen.
3. at the same time, sitting around the same table, write one word at the top and fold the paper back to hide it. then, pass the paper to the person on your left.
4. flip the new-to-you piece of paper over to read the first word and then flip it back. here's where the game gets going! add two words on to the poem at the new top of the paper, again folding to hide them and passing the paper on.
5. this process is repeated with each person only looking at the most recent addition to the poem and adding on 3 words, then 4, then 5, then back to 4, 3, 2, and 1.
6. once the closing word has been written, the poem is complete! open it up and read out loud what is likely to be a hilarious, terrible, wonderful poem.

💌 and that's the tiny letter! thank you for reading, xo aud
